Story

THIS PAGE HAD BEEN LEFT OPEN SINCE THE VIRGIN LONDON MARATHON 2018. IT HAS SINCE BEEN UPDATED FOR THE NEXT CHALLENGE/S

We all have untold stories and here is mine...

I was born 9th January 1988, with in a short time after I was diagnosed with Meningitis Escherichia-coli (for more information on this please see link attached http://www.meningitis.org/disease-info/types-causes/ecoli)

The one story that sticks out for me to this day is from my family. On the ward I was on there were 6 children all with Meningitis. From the 7 of us only myself and one other left alive. The other child lost limb/s and then myself who looked fine from the outside but inside I had suffered permanent loss of hearing in my right ear, and suffered with speech impediment ( which cleared up with speech lessons)

Back in 2017 I decided to clock up the miles to raise money and awareness for Meningitis Research Foundation.
This meant I took part in multiple races across Norfolk & Suffolk, with races from 5 miles to half marathon.
This then lead to gaining a space in the Virgin London Marathon in 2018. ( finishing in 6 hrs 26 mins)

Since London and completing my year challenge.
I have been enjoying married life, gone on to have become a father to a beautiful little girl, and started a new career and helping others get into running.
Also I was approached to be an official ambassador for Meningitis Research Foundation, something you will understand was a complete honour.

What next I hear you ask?

This year I have been running in less races, due to some injuries, but still managed to compete in 2 half marathons and a few 10k races.
Turning my luck on gaining a space in the 2020 London Marathon but was unsuccessful, I have decided to go up north and complete in the Manchester Marathon.
I have also signs on Liverpool and other major cities across the UK, over the coming years.
I will also be awaiting to go to events such as businesses, schools and colleges to do a public talk and raise awareness for Meningitis.

I will be continuing to run with the purple vest, to raise awareness and hopefully money along the way.

Lastly from me

I would like to say a massive thank you to you all for the continued support, I have received along the way. It has been very much appreciated, and I hope you continue to join me on my journey.

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
