Story

Prior to the loss of our dear friend Marty in 2022, he had been in the process of planning to gather the Senior Leadership Team at KPMG to climb the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. He was doing this to bring together his passion for the great outdoors with the importance of building team spirit and collaboration.

We felt it was only fitting to follow through on his plans with a memorial hike on 5 May 2023, reflecting on the good times spent together. One of Marty's favourite pastimes was climbing; he loved to explore and would often be heard telling stories of his latest weekend adventures in the Scottish Highlands. For anyone who knew him, that passion did not stop at climbing. His energy and can-do attitude was infectious, to the point that no deadline or target was too great; Marty would always say "don't worry, we'll smash it!", which is where the title of this hike, the 'Smash It Challenge' came from.

This challenge will be used to raise funds for the Scottish Mountaineering Trust (SMT). They provide grants to projects and organisations that promote public recreation, knowledge and safe enjoyment of the mountains. Being a Scot who loved climbing and the outdoors, we couldn't think of a better organisation to support and honour Marty with.

For more information on the SMT and the projects they are involved with, please visit their website here: About Us - SMT (thesmt.org.uk)

Let's do Marty proud by smashing our fund-raising target!

RCN SC009117
The Scottish Mountaineering Trust is a charity (founded in 1962) which exists to promote the health, education and leisure of the public in all aspects of the Scottish hills and mountains. It gives grants and loans to a wide range of organisations, from bodies which aim to improve access to mountaineering for socially disadvantage groups to established, specialist climbing clubs. The common theme in all the activities which the Trust subsidises is that they must benefit the mountaineering public in one way or another.
