We campaign for legal regulation of drugs to protect people better and save lives

Story

[THE CAPITAL2COAST RIDE WAS CANCELLED BY THE ORGANISERS BUT WE ARE GOING TO CYCLE 80MILES TO BRIGHTON ON OUR OWN ANYWAY!]

I am fundraising for Anyone’s Child: Families for Safer Drug Control, an international network of families whose lives have been wrecked by current drug laws and are now campaigning to change them.

My close involvement with Anyone’s Child has opened my eyes to the truly devastating human cost of the drug war which is ruining the lives of families and communities across the world.

Over the past few months I have been working with families in Mexico whose loved ones have been murdered or kidnapped in drug-war violence. Officially, over 150,000 people have been murdered and thousands more have disappeared since the Mexican state intensified its drug war in 2006. Everyone of these casualties was someone’s child, sister, brother of friend. They are telling their stories to help put an end to this horrific cycle of violence and to prevent other families from suffering as they have.  http://mexico.anyoneschild.org/

It takes enormous courage for these families to speak out against the horrors of the global drug war and they want their stories to be heard by as many people as possible. Doing this bike ride is an effort to tell people about the project, and to raise awareness about the suffering that families all over the world are currently subject to under prohibition.

Anyone’s Child also works with families here in the UK, and is building support in Belgium, Kenya and Canada, representing the collateral damage caused by failed drug policy at every stage of the drug trade. Your donation will be used to help us build and expand our network of families and activists. By raising money for Transform I hope to save lives and protect vulnerable people, to smash the stigma of drug use, and to make the world a safer place for young people and their families.

Prohibition is a global policy which was supposedly begun to protect us. But having worked with these families I know that fighting the drug war and making drugs illegal does not keep anyone safe. Instead, we want governments, pharmacists and licensed retailers to control the drug market.

We receive no government funding and rely solely on support from charitable trusts and generous individuals so we are extremely grateful for any and all donations.

If you can’t donate, please do take a look at the stories on the Anyone’s Child website: http://anyoneschild.org/stories/

Thank you so much
