Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At 8,201 meters Cho Oyu is the world's sixth highest mountain and lies 20 km west of Mount Everst at the border of Tibet (China) and Nepal. On August 20 I will fly to Kathmandu to join International Mountain Guides on their 2011 Cho Oyu climb.

I am raising money for HOPEHIV who support children and young people in sub-Saharan Africa affected by HIV/AIDS. I believe they have the potential to make Africa's future one of hope, rather than despair. An example is the Community Kids Clubs Malawi. Since 2004, HOPEHIV has worked with the Salvation Army in Malawi to mobilise communities to take care of orphans. Local vounteers are trained to set up and run kids clubs, providing a place where children can play and make friends (the clubs are open to all and help reduce the stigma of HIV). The most vulnerable children are case managed, with grief and trauma counseling and home visits, plus material support and help with getting back to school.
