Story

In 2016 I took to the skies to raise funds for an amazing local charity, Lewis Manning Hospice, by doing a wing walk... Two years later, and with the adrenaline finally worn off, I thought it was well overdue time I tested my mettle again whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause which has affected us all in some way. So this time, I'm going to pretend to be my favourite Avenger, as I cling to the wall a la Spiderman and then make the 170m descent down the Spinnaker Tower.

But enough about me... The charity I am aiming to raise money for is Macmillan Caring Locally. Not associated in any way with Macmillan Cancer Support, Macmillan Caring Locally is a small charity which operates from the Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital to provide palliative care for those with cancer and other terminal illnesses, across Dorset. As the number of people diagnosed with cancer continues to grow, the unit has seen a huge increase in the number of referrals and so is in desperate need of expansion.

This does not come cheap and the new unit is estimated to cost in the region of £4 million! The new building in Christchurch will help to improve the work of Macmillan Caring Locally’s dedicated inpatient nurses, specialist palliative care nurses who visit patients, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, family support team and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital palliative care team.

By doing this abseil I'm hoping I can play some part in helping Macmillan Caring Locally achieve the sum for their much-in-need new unit.
