Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In less than nine months time I will face the almighty challenge of swimming, biking and running more than 140 miles in less than 17 hours when I take part in the Ironman Wales event in Tenby.

I've been competing in triathlons for the last four years but as far as these events go, this is the big one!

My wife thinks I'm bonkers, my boys just want my medal and I think, well, what the heck it will be a nice day out at the beach!

Believe it or not, I wasn't even drunk when I signed up!

Truth is, over recent years I've known a number of amazing people who have had the unfortunate experience of battling that nasty 'C-word' disease. Some have won their battle but sadly others have not and that includes my very own, truly amazing mother-in-law Lin Paterson. I've seen first hand what the battle entails and swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 and running a further 26 afterwards is just a walk in the park in comparison to surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and endless hospital visits.

I'm sure we all know someone facing the very same battle today, tomorrow and the day after so undertaking this challenge really seems the least I can do to raise funds for the magnificent Macmillan Cancer Support charity, which on a daily basis, guides thousands of people through the most intense battle of their lives.

So, please spare what you can to help me hit my ambitious £2000 target so this charity can continue to provide valuable support and advice to patients and I'll do my damned hardest to make sure I cross the finish line.

Thanks for all your support

Matt
