I'm taking on the London Marathon, one of the most iconic races in the world, to support Prostate Cancer Research. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed male cancer in the UK, yet current treatments are limited and can be harmful particularly for the late stages. Prostate Cancer Research funds research into more effective treatments for prostate cancer with the aim creating a future where people are free from the impact of the disease. 

As many of you know my Dad unfortunately died of complications from Prostate Cancer on September 15th 2021. He was 73. He had been battling the disease for over six years but went downhill very rapidly in the late summer after the cancer spread into his liver. We were all a bit shocked at how quickly things progressed in those last few days.

What was remarkable about Dad's story was that he had been fighting the cancer for so many years. When he was originally diagnosed, he already had a Stage IV metastasized cancer - the worst kind. Despite this he was able to get some really quite remarkable drug treatments that helped him beat back the cancer time and time again, giving us all periods of hope over those six long years. The only reason he was able to survive from the initial diagnosis as long as he did was because of the amazing cancer research that has been done over the past decades, funded by the likes of Prostate Cancer Research. 

I completed the 2022 London Marathon on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK, raising over £4,000 for them, and want to add to what I did there. Prostate Cancer Research was the other big charity I wanted to support in his memory and they've kindly given me a chance to do this in 2023. I'm not sure my legs or body will thank me for this but it is all in the name of an excellent cause!

I will bug you, harass you and harangue you to sponsor me as this is really important. The money that we can raise for Prostate Cancer Research will make a real difference to real people's lives. It did to ours and, who knows, it may to you one day. Please help continue the research that each day makes Prostate Cancer a condition that we can fear that little bit less.
