In 2018 St John Cymru Wales is celebrating 100 years of being there for the people of Wales.

Story

St John Cymru was established in 1918 and during it’s time provided the first ambulance service for the people of Wales. Since then our services have supported people through some of the country’s highs and lows, from rescuing soldiers on the battlefield in the First World War, to being pitch side when Wales has won Grand Slams. St John Cymru may have changed but we are now Wales’ leading first aid charity and we believe our work is as valuable now as it was 100 years ago.

Thanks to the support of over 4000 volunteers we continue to deliver frontline services in the heart of welsh communities and vital support to our emergency services, helping to keep people safe and every year caring for over 9000 people who needed us. To help build a safer Wales we’re building a nation of life savers, by providing children and adults in the local community with the vital skills they need to save a life and provide first aid to people in their community. Our aim is to create a Wales where there is a first aider in every home.

Our centenary campaign is underpinned by a set of values that reflect the work and culture of St John Cymru Wales. These are:

  • Humanity: We treat others with empathy, compassion and respect
  • Excellence: We are proud of our organisation and are committed to be the best we can be
  • Inspire: We lead by example and support others to reach their full potential
  • Community: We are dedicated to making communities across Wales healthier and safer places to live
  • Inclusion: We welcome everyone equally and involve people of all ages and backgrounds

Throughout our centenary year we will be focussing on four main things:

  1. Celebrating the 100 year history of St John Cymru
  2. Raising funds to help St John Cymru continue to be there
  3. Increasing awarness of St John Cymru and our work in Wales
  4. Recruiting new volunteers of all ages to help secure our future and that of our health and social care in Wales
