No child in the UK should grow up to be poor or lonely just because they are blind. 90% of those who lose their sight in youth won’t work for more than six months in their lives. Most will never have someone to share their life with. RSBC believe in a better life for blind children.

Story

Etta is my 16-month-old little girl who is blind. She was born blind and as yet it is not known what the cause is but it is likely to a be a genetic defect.

The possibility of your child being blind isn't something that's mentioned to you in ante-natal classes, or at your pregnancy check-ups
and it's almost certainly not something that you think about when you're painting the nursery, so it's a bit of a surprise when it happens.

The RSBC were so quick to help us when we found out and they will be there for Etta as she grows older.

We will not let blindness define Etta or what she is capable of.
