Story

Hi there!

Firstly I would like to thank you so much for visiting my just giving page.

My friends know that I love a physical challenge and running is a huge part of my life. However, I’ll admit that running the distance of a marathon has always been something that has slightly terrifies me and I’ll usually respond to anyone who suggests it by saying ‘no way, I couldn’t do that’.

So why am I putting myself through this?!

There a couple reasons why and those two reasons are for my wonderful Aunts, Selena and Emily.

In June 2018 at the age of 58, my aunt Selena sadly passed away after battling MS for over 30 years. She was a caring, funny and colourful character who absolutely loved life. Slowly over the years MS cruelly stopped her being able to do all the things that she loved to do and at the end of her life she was bed ridden and in constant pain. As a family member it’s very hard to watch someone you love go through this and even harder of course for her sons.

Sadly my other Aunt Emily, who I am extremely close with also suffers from MS and she continues to fight this illness every day and does so amazingly.

So what is MS?

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects your brain and spinal cord. In MS, the coating that protects your nerves (myelin) is damaged. This causes a range of symptoms like blurred vision and problems with how we move, think and feel. There are 130,000 people with MS in the UK, and each year 7,000 new people are diagnosed meaning that continued research is vital to help find a way to stop this disease.

So as you have guessed after reading my story that MS is a pretty big part of mine and my family’s life and any donations you can make, no matter how big or small, go a really long way to helping others who need the support. The MS society has been a charity that we have used and raised money over the years and they have been a great support.

Thank you for your donation and wish me luck.. I’m going to need it!
