For those of you who don't know, our best man, the lovely, looney Clive Case died in 2005 of bowel cancer at the age of 34, and I pledged then to embarrass myself and do something sporty every year to raise money to help to prevent other people dying so young, so needlessly and especially before their children reach the age of 2. 

Clive's son David is now 11, and the picture shows him with Clive's memorial stone where his ashes were scattered in his favourite valley in Citrusdal, South Africa. 

Since Clive's death I've done the Race for Life 4 times, 3 triathlons (yes, triathlons) done a mile swim in the Thames and gone without booze for a month (a "dryathlon”.. geddit?) and in the process raised a total of £5,924 for Cancer Research.

After well & truly proving that running isn't my area of strength during the triathlon last year, in 2015 I will be walking the Grand Union Challenge http://www.grandunionchallenge.com/ - 25km along the Grand Union Canal, on 27th June.

I have a dodgy ligament in my knee, so I’ll be strapped up and probably hobbling, wincing and crying by the end, with blisters and a random scrape from falling into the bushes. 

All the sponsorship money, and Gift Aid will be going to Cancer Research UK, who have contributed to more people beating cancer than ever before. In the 1970s, only a quarter of people survived. Today, more than half will survive for at least ten years. 

That has to be worth a few quid, surely?
