Brighton Marathon 2023 · 2 April 2023 ·
Three months ago I signed up to a challenge, now I have got over the initial shock of gaining my place. I have decided to tell the world ‘I am running a marathon’. It is one of my bucket list things to do, and achieving whilst using the old adage there’s no time like the present.
Since getting my place in Brighton Marathon I have felt a full range of emotions, from laughter to complete panic.
This will be without doubt my biggest physical challenge I have ever set myself but one that will be the most rewarding (let me tell you, golf is much easier!).
Of course I wouldn’t set a challenge like this without dragging someone with me (sorry Dan!). All the hard work training is worth it to see further developments with Diabetes UK 💙.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in March 2018. My life changed so quickly, I struggled to understand why me, I was young, I was active - playing golf every week, yes I used to drink alcohol every weekend but no different to others my age.
Then the realisation kicked in, there is no cure so you have to face it.
Type 1 diabetes is not a visible disability, People don’t see the thousands of injections we take to keep ourselves alive, they don’t see the frustration when your blood sugar levels aren’t playing ball and your struggling to control them but you must carry on with your everyday jobs. The mood swings, needing to pee every 20 minutes, the 3am hypos trying to eat everything in the house and not wanting to get out of the bed the next morning.
All donations are gratefully received and will continue to motivate me along this long road and YES I can do this and I will do this 💪🏼 🏃♀️
