Story

Mersey Bowmen members are taking part in a 24 hour tennis marathon on 22nd Feb and a 15,000 ft skydive on Friday 13th March 😱 because we want to provide tennis to help tackle mental and physical health in our Liverpool community through several initiatives delivered by expert coaches and volunteers.

We are based in the heart of Sefton Park, Liverpool’s busiest green space. This puts us in prime position to help tackle Liverpool’s health burdens by increasing access to tennis. We have a capital project that will serve the whole community, and help manage loneliness, mental and physical challenges.

We are networked into a tennis community and other health provider partners including universities and social enterprises. This allows great ideas to be shared and spread, and ultimately, a safe and effective offer to those who need it most.

The main goal of Bright Ideas for Tennis is to encourage more people to play more tennis. Our fantastic sport has been medically proven to not only improve ones physical health, but also to aid and maintain ones mental well-being too.Over the past 6 years, we pride ourselves on knowing that we have personally coached approximately 8000 players, have raised in excess of £600,000, and have provided a further 5000 hours of free community coaching schemes as a result. Our fundraising events have helped clubs to floodlight existing courts, resurface tired surfaces, and provide disability access / equipment where needed.

About the charity

Our primary goal is to support tennis clubs in the UK by increasing membership numbers, raising participation levels and improving playing facilities. We encourage venues to expand their existing coaching sessions, creating an all-inclusive programme for their community.
