In October 2019,  I started my training plan for the
London Marathon in 2020.  Everything was going very well; I even completed a 20 mile event and felt fine and on target for the big one.  Sadly COVID came along and the event was postponed and rearranged for October.  A disappointment, but at least there was a goal to aim at and with a little adjustment to my training plan it could still work.  Everything was going well until August came and RACE CANCELLED. 
Disappointed, but not surprised. 

 In a last ditch attempt to achieve something this year, I have entered the London Virtual Marathon which will take place on Sunday 4 October at a time and place to be decided by ME!

A colleague recently addressed me as a veteran; I can proudly say that I fall into that category twice. Firstly I served for 42 years in the Army, that makes me a military vet and secondly I’m 72 years old and that makes me a life time vet. I think that’s a double whammy.  

Now to give this Double Vet a bit of an incentive to run, what could be his last marathon I have decided to run for the Royal British Legion (RBL) and I ask as many friends, colleagues and family to sponsor me.

I have chosen the RBL as my choice of charity to sponsor as its a charity that everyone, military and civilian are aware of. The RBL have been around for over a 100 years supporting all military personnel, both past and present. As November is approaching and remembrance Sunday with it,we all wear our poppy with pride as we commemorate the fallen.

In an attempt to keep the run simple and easy as possible, i have selected a route along the canal. Basically, from Rochdale to Hebden Bridge where I shall take a deep breath and run back. A beautiful route but still 26.2 miles.
