As many of my friends and family know, I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in 2010 following the birth of my youngest child. 

Many people think that OCD is a compulsive need to keep things clean and orderly but it is so much more. There are many forms and ways in which it can affect people. Mine was mainly intrusive thoughts regarding the health and well-being of my children, which made me feel like I was going insane. So much so, that I had planned to take my own life because envisioning some of my thoughts was just too much to take. 

Luckily for me, my husband came home early that night! That was my rock bottom and like they say, the only way from there is onward and upward. I’ve had some extensive Cognitive Behaviorial Therapy combined with psychotropic medications and it’s fair to say that I am managing very well. 

 There have been periods of time when I’ve fell downhill and needed “top up” therapy and counselling and I’m grateful I was able to freely access this help. That, along with the support from my other half Jason, who sees me at my very worst and loves me all the same is the best type of medicine. My friends and family are the rocks that I cling to in my mental storms and they don’t know just how thankful I am!

I’m wanting to raise money for Mind due to this. RED January means I have to make a move every day starting January 1st, which is a great time to start 😊 I’m hoping that by taking better care of myself and taking time out for me to feel better will keep me on par. I have the lovely Miss Iveson that’s encouraged me to do this with her so dig deep people and help us reach our goal.
