Hello and welcome to my Justgiving page.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1987 at the age of 16. How things have changed over the years. Syringes have been replaced with pens and pumps and blood sugar meters have shrunk in size. Wouldn't it be fantastic to eventually find a cure?
Participating in the London Marathon has been on my bucket list for many years. Watching it on the TV from a young age, listening to the theme music (which still gives me goose bumps) and admiring the array of people filling the London streets made me think "I want to do that one day".
Finally, after trying for the past 8 years or so, I have secured a ballot place. I am now constantly reminding myself of the saying 'be careful what you wish for'!!
The furthest distance I have ever plodded is 10k and that was a few years ago now, so I suppose I need to put in some serious training over the next 6 months. At the end of the day I just need to do this distance 4 times over (who am I trying to kid?!)
I will be pounding the pavements next April (along with my insulin pump and other paraphernalia)) and am DETERMINED to cross the finish line in any way, shape or form, even if I have to crawl on my hands and knees.
I won't let my diabetes get in my way: I CONTROL IT, IT DOESN'T CONTROL ME!
I would be most grateful if you could help me reach my fundraising goal - even £1 would help towards my target. (If you would prefer to complete a sponsor form rather than donating online then please let me know).
Thank you and look out for number 6756 on 23rd April 2017!
Michelle xx
