The nation’s leading first aid charity. Every year, more than 400,000 people learn how to save a life through our training programmes. Our volunteers provide first aid in their communities and thanks to them fewer lives will be lost needlessly. Raise money. Help save lives. Be the difference.

Story

On 14th July 2016, Peter Smith's world was literally turned upside down. What was supposed to be a routine journey home on his motorbike, turned into a horrific accident and left Pete fighting for his life.

Pete was forced to take evasive action incredibly quickly on the M5 motorway that afternoon, after a car had failed to see him in their wing mirror, which lead to him colliding with the central reservation, causing him to suffer life changing injuries.

After being in a coma for several weeks, Pete miraculously pulled through and now lives to tell the tale. Of which St John Ambulance played an incredibly vital part.

An ambulance with volunteers from this fantastic organisation happened to be on the M5 motorway when Pete's incident occurred. They were able to administer life saving first aid to him on the side of the motorway, whilst the air ambulance was called to take him to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

30 operations later, Pete is not yet back to full health, but has certainly made an unbelievable recovery. In a bid to say thank you to the organisation that played such a massive part in keeping him alive, this event is being hosted.

The Midlands Referee's, of which I (Ajay Sharma) am a member, is a group of referee's all off abilities, from Football League to Grass roots level who have put their reputations on the line in order to beat their colleagues in a one off 90 minute match, hosted by Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, at their fantastic Compton Park training facility.

Pete Smith is father to my partner Hayley, and has been there for me at some of the most difficult points in my life. I ask that you all give generously to our cause, and attend the game. It would mean the world to Pete and his family, but will no doubt be fantastic entertainment as the "men in black" don horrendously coloured kits in what is likely to be a highly contested and potentially nail biting game of football.

I thank you in advance for all your help and support. It truly does mean so much to us all.
