Story

Hello Everyone, my name is Jim Critchlow and I have been fortunate to have been married to my wife Tricia for almost 45 years.

For those of you that didn’t know Tricia, Tricia was a wonderful, caring person that possessed many talents and in her younger years she was an excellent ballroom dancer. She also had a natural flare with flowers and taught herself how to preserve them which she eventually was able to turn into a small business. Within our spare time, Tricia and I liked to go for walks within the countryside and have had many enjoyable outings with our family and friends.

Tricia had been experiencing various signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease for a number of years prior to receiving her formal diagnosis in 2013 at her young age of 56. Alzheimer's is such a devastating disease which has effected every part of Tricia’s life and has had a significant impact upon our family. It has been extremely difficult in many ways watching my lovely wife deteriorate and becoming totally dependent upon myself, my family and latterly her wonderful carers at Adlington Manor Care Home who supports and cares for Tricia on a 24 hour basis.

Since Tricia’s diagnosis our three children, Shelley, Daniel and Leanne, have all helped to raise money by completing various fundraising challenges including a simultaneous skydive and Shelley and her husband James, completing the Buxton Half Marathon. I have now decided that it is my time to jump on the band wagon and do my bit to help raise the awareness and funds for a charity that it close to our hearts.

Starting on Tricia’s 65th birthday on the 26th April 2021, I will be walking 6.3 miles each day for a period of 100 days. Within my route I shall be incorporating different areas of Buxton, including Brown Edge Road (where we used to live), Burbage, the bottom of Harpur Hill and then making my way back to Fairfield via Dukes Drive. In addition, I have also made the decision not to shave throughout the 100 days and grow a beard (Forest Gump style) - I probably won’t have the energy to shave anyway!

Living with Alzheimer's disease has been a massive learning curve and through the wonderful support received by family, friends and various groups both locally and nationally, including the Alzheimer's Society, it has enabled Tricia, myself and my family to remain positive and cope with the disease and its effects to date.

Please help me to raise as much money as I possibly can in order to help support this wonderful charity to continue its good work by helping support current and future sufferers and in its aims to lead the fight against Dementia.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
