Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year was a damn right horrible time for my family and I. We battled against a life changing, engulfing, gruesomely destructive storm that swept in and turned our lives upside down.
That storm was cancer, and it came and took, my wonderful mum, Janet, from this earth.
We wouldn't let it take her without a fight, and thats what the entirety of last year ended up being. Mum was an absolute warrior. She battled with dignity through its entirety, through its twists and turns and ups and downs, she kept fighting, until there unfortunately wasn't much left of her to keep up the fight.
On the winters morning of 24th December 2016, Mum parted with this world.
Her light shines down on me on the darkest of days, on the loneliest of nights I close my eyes and feel for her warm embrace, and for my mum to tell me everything will be ok. Indeed, nothing will ever be the same, it's all been a struggle but, with that struggle, strength has been gained.....
Princess Alice Hospice, have been truly incredible. They've helped through it all. Not only do they provide round-the-clock end of life care and pain control, they do so many little things to make patients feel more comfortable. For mum, they organised so she could have her hair done (little bit of pampering), she had relaxation massage, reiki healing, people singing carols at her bedside. There was beautiful fresh flowers in her bedroom every week, and her bedroom was a lot more homely than a hospital bed. Most of all, there was always someone there for her to chat to if we weren't able to be by her side. The nurses, doctors, counsellors, and volunteers for Princess Alice are the strongest, most admirable bunch of humans, words cannot even describe how much I value their efforts. Not only did they support mum, they supported us as a family, and have continued to support us since mum's passing. The bereavement counselling I have received through them has been invaluable. It has been a safe place to talk to someone non-judgmentally, who really understand the grieving process associated with it all. Thank you to all of Princess Alice Hospice. Thank you to Mum for being such a beautiful, kind, strong, admirable mum, your teachings continue to guide me.
