One hen one child · 25 January 2017
I travelled to rural Kenya in December 2016 with a charity called One by One. The purpose was to visit their school and home to a 150 orphan children.
The charity helps children and widows, and those families who are most in need of love, practical help and hope.
Whilst there i was challenged by the poverty the need and the opportunity to really help make a difference to the lives of people trapped in poverty.
I was inspired by a true story about a man called Kojo who lived in poverty in rural Ghana. He and his family had nothing from day to day they gathered sticks and sold them for firewood this paid for the days food, life was a constant struggle with no way out of the poverty circle.
Kojo wasn't in school as he had to help mum gather the wood and make money to eat and live.
Eventually over time Kojo saved up a few cents from his hard work, enough to buy his dream..owning one hen.
Kojo bought a hen and looked after it like his own child, the hen laid eggs and supplied Kojo and his mum with a little nutritional food eventually some of the eggs produced chicks and now Kojo had 15 hens.
Wow he thought lots of eggs that he could sell to pay to go to school
The hens that laid the eggs that sold at market that paid for school that taught him to read and write that helped him go to collage to learn how to run a business that he built which employed the town... yes Kojo over time built Ghana biggest chicken farm employing thousands of people and changing villages forever.
One HEN can change One child that is trapped in poverty and pay for their education, food, hosing and medical help.
Kojo represents so many children that we are helping and want to help that are hungry, homeless, without hope, living from day to day .
