I took part in Cycle4Schooling, a 67 mile bike
ride from London to Oxford on the 17th of May to raise vital funds for Al
Madad Foundation, who work tirelessly to promote education and literacy for
disadvantaged and refugee children.
In the past year alone they have successfully reached over 700 internally displaced children living in abandoned schools in Aleppo, Syria, who have been out of school for three years, since the start of the conflict. Their approach has been to fight against the growlog lost generation within the country by making schooling accessible to children aged 4-19, building capacity within the school itself by employing qualified refugees as teachers.
Money raised through the cycle will help the Foundation to maintain these two sites for as long as necessary, and to expand their projects to two more sites in the area, reaching another 700 children. The results have been excellent so far, with older children given the opportunity to resume their studies and achieve their qualifications, and younger children beginning their education, learning to read and write and having the opportunity to express themselves creatively. The return to routine, discipline and normlacy has had a tremendous impact upon the schools' communities, with improved harmony and positivity within what has been a very difficult environment.
Together, we manged to raise nearly £12,000! But with your support, I can reach my £10,000 target, nearly doubling what was raised so far. So please continue to support me in my efforts to support this worthy cause! Every penny you donate will go directly to the projects on the ground and will help build a brighter future for Syria's children.
Many thanks, your donations are truly appreciated!
