Cycling From London to Mont Saint Michel · 5 May 2023
A team of 7 committed (and possibly foolish) friends are cycling from London to Mont Saint-Michel in France. The journey will involve them cycling over 500 miles in 5 days, in an effort to raise money for the Southwell Accommodation Project on behalf of Reach Learning Disability.
Southwell Accommodation Project
Reach Learning Disability is a brilliant charity that supports over 200 people with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire. They are an incredible team that support incredible people, and it is a cause that is particularly close to our hearts. Tom’s brother Ben (pictured) has learning difficulties and is hoping for a place in the Southwell Accommodation Project, something that would enable him the opportunity to live as independently as possible, while still having the support he will need in life.
Ben is a brilliant character, funny, caring and with a hug that is like being held by a bear. This accommodation provides him and others like him the chance to thrive in an environment specifically designed for their needs, and reach their full potential.
There is a distinct lack of quality, affordable accommodation in the UK. This means that many adults with learning disabilities are forced to live with their ageing parents as there is no realistic alternative. The options are even further limited in rural communities, with people often having to leave their communities to find housing. This process can be very stressful for people with learning disabilities and can lead to isolation, loneliness and poor health. The work Reach Learning Disability do is a great way of addressing some of these issues and we are proud to support them in this cause.
