Dig deep for Derbyshire Scout Archaeology

Southampton Marathon 2022 · 24 April 2022 ·
Derbyshire Scout Archaeology Team Lead and Creator, Morgause is digging deep and taking on the colossal challenge of running the Southampton Marathon to help raise funds for Derbyshire Scout Archaeology.
What is the Derbyshire Scout Archaeology Badge?
The Derbyshire Scout Archaeology Badge was launched on 22nd January 2021 and is a badge for all 6,000 Derbyshire Scouts, ranging from the ages of six to 25. Our main aim is to inspire young people to engage in local heritage and archaeology. The badge involves a multitude of activities, from taking part in excavations and creating Stone Age tools, to running community outreach projects.
Outside of Scouting, the badge allows Scouts to gain transferable life skills enabling them to become better citizens within and outside of heritage. It also inspires Scouts to be curious about the world around them and encourages them to tackle bigger questions using what they have learnt and the subject of archaeology itself.
Impact so far...
Over 200 Derbyshire Scout Archaeology Badges have been awarded so far and 15+ hours of 'Intro to Archaeology' sessions delivered. We are the recipients of the Archaeological Achievement Award for Innovation presented by the Council for British Archaeology, beating out over 80 nominations from all over the UK and Ireland.
Funding
The Derbyshire Scout Archaeology Badge started on a budget of £0. Thanks to Derbyshire Scouts we were able to get a small pot of money to buy activity supplies, helping us to deliver our famous 'Intro to Archaeology' sessions. We want to provide all Derbyshire Scouts the opportunity to be fully immersed in Archaeology. We want to run our own excavations, site visits and lots, lots more 'Intro to Archaeology' sessions. This all requires lots of funding.
We would appreciate every coin you can give even if it's not Roman. By digging deep you would help us to buy new excavating equipment, activity resources, storage facilities and much much more you will be helping young people to learn about the past.
We like to define archaeology as 'Things related to People in the Past'. By studying the past young people gain empathy and respect for all cultures and heritage, this helps them to make a difference in the present and the past. So help us to make the next generation of Archaeologists!
