Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
6 members of National Grid's pension team are attempting to climb Ben Nevis through the night, planning to reach the summit by sunrise to raise money for Macmillan Cancer support.
The team consists of: Julie Aspinall, Hana Crossfield, Wayne Du Preez, James Foster, Helen McIntosh and Tilly Ross.
Here our our stories (please expand the page):
James Foster - Everyone knows somebody who has been directly or indirectly affected by cancer and at the age of 13 I lost my mother after her long battle. I hope that, through your generous donations, we can raise enough money to help Macmillan support those in need of support.
Wayne du Preez - Everyone I know who has been touched by cancer in this country has been helped by MacMillan. The Ben Nevis Midnight ascent is a chance for me to add my own support to this worthy charity. This will be my first climb of a British mountain, although I have walked up Table Mountain in Cape Town several times before, which is about 80% of the height of Ben Nevis. For me the hike will start with the Evening Prayer of the Divine Office just before setting off from the base at 8pm, followed by Morning Prayer on the summit at dawn the next day - to both of which I will be adding special intentions for all those who have been affected in any way by cancer and for the work of Macmillan and its supporters. Thank you all for your encouragement and donations.
Julie Aspinall - Having lost 3 of my four grandparents to cancer (and unfortunately knowing that it's not uncommon) I'm conscious of the effect that cancer can have. Macmillan do a great job of supporting individuals and families and this walk is my way of supporting them. Please join me by donating to our site.
Hana Crossfield - I agree with the sentiment that little things can make a big difference so this is a little thing that I hope will make a difference to Macmillaan and those facing cancer who need support now or in the future. Thank you in anticipation for your support and donations - these little things make a big difference to us :)
Helen McIntosh - Having lost my dad and other close family members to cancer, I know first-hand how cancer affects lives and the vital role Macmillan play in supporting those affected. Each step I will take towards the summit will be nothing in comparison to the steps those suffering from cancer or caring for someone who is, take. Each step I take will be my way of supporting those individuals and the invaluable support Macmillan offer them. Please join me by donating to our site. Thank you.
Tilly Ross - Both my parents in law benefit from wonderful specialist nursing care at the end of their lives when they were affected by cancer. This care and support was invaluable and left the family with long serving memory of how kind and supportive they had been at such difficult times. in their work Macmillan touch so many people from so many walks of life and I would like their support to be available for those sadly affected by cancer when they need it in the future. So when the opportunity to put together a team for the Ben Nevis challenge came up joining it was important to me. The top of a mountain is also a place to reflect. I do hope you will support this cause to help Macmillan support as many lives as possible in the future. Tilly
