Chris Hoy Half Marathon 2010 · 18 April 2010 ·
This all started at the beginning of January with an email from my Husband Martins school friend Gavin asking if I was going to join them in running the Chris Hoy Half Marathon. He'd already roped Martin into the run. My response was not a chance - there is no way I am fit enough to do that - for those of you who know me you know I am no runner. The next email I received is the Bupa training plan specifically designed to get you fit enough to complete the half marathon. Gavin sold it to me as the Zero to Hero training plan. So I decided I would start the training and see how it went - but there was no way I was committing myself by paying for a place on the run. I started getting emails from all the people who had been persuaded by Gavin to join in and Team Moopmaid was born - I found the stories of people's training sessions so funny to quote a few - a doctor telling one of the Moopmaids that he is a fat man running on skinny mans legs and that its a catch 22 situation. Another Moopmaid tells of how his new Lycra leggings create so much electricity between his thighs it could power the national grid. These training stories made me think I would be missing out on a good laugh if I didnt compete on the day so I paid for my place and now I am committed!! Training started on Jan 25th and when I managed to run 2.5 miles I was pretty proud of myself. Having endured knee and ankle injuries that have kept me from training I am now running up to 11 miles in one go and have succeeded in running 27.3 miles this week in total - it has not been easy at all and some days I really have to push myself to run the distance I need to in order to make sure I'm ready for the 18th April 2010. What keeps me going is the thought of raising some money for the Make a Wish Foundation who grant the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions. Check out www.wish.org for more info about this amazing charity.
The half is tomorrow and I have to say am slightly concerned as I have been out of proper training for 5 whole weeks with injury! However I am fighting fit now just hope I can get thru the run and praying fro some cloud and drizzle as the weather is glorious just now - not the best to run in. Thanks again to all that have donated!!!
