At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In May 2014 I will be walking from London to Brighton (hopefully within 24 hours) to raise some much need money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

As you may be aware my mum (Shirley) has been suffering from this horrible and debilitating illness. Over the past few years mum’s mental capacities have diminished quite significantly and she now needs 24 hour supervision. Mun still enjoys dancing whenever country/Irish music is played on the TV and her smile (when it appears) is still as lovely as ever.

I would really like to raise as much money as possible to help all other people who are either suffering from Dementia or care & support those who do.

I’ve now started training for the walk and realise that 100km is quite a challenge, black toenails, blisters & aches to start with!! I’ll try and update this page with milestones as I reach them the first being a 20km night training walk at the end of March 2014.

Please donate as much as you can spare (I have old fashioned sponsor forms if you’d prefer to donate that way) as it’s a really horrible illness for both the sufferer & those caring for them. Wish me luck and thank you again for visiting my page.

Below are some facts/figures supplied by the Alzheimer’s Society.

Dementia affects over 800,000 people in the UK alone with numbers set to rise to one million by 2021. Alzheimer's Society is the UK 's leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. We run quality care services, fund innovative research, advise professionals and campaign for improved health and social care and greater public understanding of dementia.
