Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 · 8 September 2019 ·

EVERY 90 SECONDS someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury (ABI). There are many possible causes, such as a fall, a road traffic accident, an assault, a tumour or a stroke. A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. When it does, we're here to help

Story

In September 2015 Mum (Karen) was taken away from us far too young (aged just 63).  It came as a complete shock to everyone, but Mum suffered a massive brain hemorrhage and never recovered.  Others do survive similar incidents and Headway do a wonderful job in supporting these individuals and their families.  That could have been Mum, and for that reason I want to try and give a little back to others, by completing this event in memory of her.  I last completed the GNR in 2014, and Mum was at the finish line to cheer me on.  Sadly that won't be the case this time, but I am absolutely positive she would approve.
