Turning Tides, previously WCHP, believe that everyone has the right to a home, regardless of the difficulties and issues they may face in their lives. We believe in showing those who need our help that the wider community are there to support them and to offer hope for a better future.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

When I think about what it is that has kept me housed througout my life so far, I have to admit that it is through good fortune, the support of family members and the kindness of friends. These are easy to take for granted but without this important support where would you find yourself?

Worthing Churches Homelesss Project doesn't just provide shelter for the homeless, but strives to give individuals a route back off the streets and into longterm housing.

Part of my motovation for running for this charity is that I Worked as a car park attendant in Brighton many years ago, and I was instructed to move the homeless on from the carparks and not let them bed down for the night. It was horrible work, and I would always let them stay as long as possible, but It still meant moving them on at 6.00 am before the bosses turned up to do the morning patrol. I can't imagine how It would feel to have to pick up your belonging and shuffle out on to the city streets at 6 am with your duvet wrapped around you. We had to do this even when it was -5 degrees outside.

I have ran a half marathon before, but It was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. The picture above shows me afterwards, so tired that I was struggling to fingt my way into a bin bag (It was pissing it down).  I wasn't quite as fit as I had hoped, nor am I the ideal fitness to start training now for a marathon in only about 3 months. When searching for 3 month training plans this is one of the first things I found:

"Stupid idea. If you run it and complete it, you probably wont be able to walk properly for about a month. Give the marathon the respect it deserves. Unless you are rich enough to afford your own personal trainer. You need to train nearly a year"

now I think this guy is perhaps a little pessimistic, but It is definately a wake-up call to the enormity of the task at hand.

So please be generous for what is a very good cause, I could really do with all the motivation I can get.

please dig deep and donate now.
