Story
I am joining the Cycle a Difference Asian Business Challenge Ride at the end of March. With 440 kilometers to complete in three days, some big climbs (2,500 metres on the first day), this is a huge personal challenge. Whilst I may not be up there with the top cyclists, I am training very hard and I am determined to finish. This will certainly push me outside my comfort zone! Cycling for newborns is a great cause and I am inspired to help make a difference to newborn care in Vietnam.
Everyday doctors and nurses working in resource poor environments face incredible challenges and nowhere is this more evident than at the very beginning of life. Globally nearly 3 million babies die every year, the majority in poor countries. Worldwide there is a critical shortage of trained health workers and nurses. More newborns would survive if appropriately trained nurses cared for them.
I am getting back on my bike to support the Newborns Vietnam UK/Vietnam neonatal nurse training programme to help some extraordinary doctors and nurses fulfill their dream to give better care to every newborn.
