Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for Trailwalker 2014!
Early on Saturday 26 July, I will be part of a team of four called The Broken Rules which will embark on Trailwalker, an epic charity challenge in the South Downs in aid of the Gurkha Welfare Trust and Oxfam. We will walk 100km from Petersfield (near where I grew up) in Hampshire, crossing the border into West Sussex and on to Brighton Racecouse within 30 hours, walking through the night and finishing as early as possible on Sunday 27 July.
Trailwalker’s origins go back more than 30 years. In 1981 the Queen's Gurkha Signals Regiment in Hong Kong first started Trailwalker as a training exercise to test soldiers’ stamina and teamwork skills. Since then Trailwalker has become an international phenomenon, with 16 events in 12 countries. Trailwalker UK will be 15 years old this year, and in taking part we’ll be up against some pretty serious competition. The record time is 9 hours and 50 minutes, set by the Gurkhas themselves, back in 2004. Our aims are more modest – simply to finish – and we promise not to live up to our team name to ensure we do!
The Gurkha Welfare Trust carries out vital work to alleviate hardship and distress among former Gurkha servicemen to repay the debt of honour owed to these brave soldiers, who have fought for our freedom for nearly 200 years. Oxfam is a global movement fighting poverty both responding to emergencies and engaging in longer term projects to help people build a better future for themselves.
The Broken Rules consists of myself, Olly Lendrum, Andy Molloy and Paul Smith. Together we have set ourselves the challenging target of raising £2000 for these two worthwhile causes. Although we can train hard to give us all the best possible chance of getting to Brighton, we need your help to get us to our fundraising target. We’d be very grateful for any donations you decide to make!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Thank you again for visiting my fundraising page!
