Story

Our ‘Networking Marathoners’ team of business networkers means business in raising funds for disabled people. Through Leonard Cheshire we are helping people with disabilities to live, learn and work as independently as they choose whatever their ability. This year the 40th London Marathon is being held ‘virtually' on 4th October, and this means our 7 valiant team members will be running, or walking, the 26.2 mile iconic marathon route wherever they happen to at that time! They will be tracked by a specially formulated app for the event and will have to complete the challenge by midnight on the 4th

Our seven-strong ‘Networking Marathoners’ team is comprised of individual business people from Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Bristol who have come together 'virtually' through business networking to support Leonard Cheshire:

Sarah Grout: Regional Fundraising Development Executive, Leonard Cheshire - https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarahgrout/

Tom Payne: Abaqus Ltd - https://www.linkedin.com/in/tompayneacca/

Alan Clark: Exponential Coaching Ltd - https://www.linkedin.com/in/alan-clark-a0258483/

Steve Ackroyd: The Job Guru - https://www.linkedin.com/in/thejobguru/

Andrew Grout: Chartered Building Surveyor - https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrew-grout-595922166/

Rick Towers: DNA (Digital Native Advertising) - https://www.linkedin.com/in/rick-towers-28a9103/

Hazel Bamford: Cotswold Surveyors - https://www.linkedin.com/in/hazel-bamford-16046113/

This is an extraordinarily tough year for all charities with so many fundraising events being cancelled, like the London Marathon, that raise vital funds. For Leonard Cheshire, along with a major drop in income overall, there are the continuing costs of protecting our carers through the provision of PPE in our services. Important campaigns and programmes focus on reducing isolation and loneliness for disabled people – some of the many negative impacts exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The idea for the event was announced with only 6 weeks’ preparation time, so this challenge is especially real and an extraordinary ask for all our team members! As there will not be the usual crowds and atmosphere synonymous with the London Marathon, your support in the run up to the event through social media, and on the day, as well as of course, any contributions through sponsorship - of whatever size – would be enormously appreciated by us all.

THANK YOU  from the Networking Marathoners and all at Leonard
Cheshire !
