Story
On Sunday 11 October 2020 I should have been participating in the 2020 Chicago Marathon, only my second ever marathon. The event has, of course, been postponed because of the current global pandemic.
I have continued to train and so as not to waste the not inconsiderable hours that have been devoted to completing such a discipline, from Saturday 1 August 2020 I shall attempt to run and cycle the virtual distance of the United Kingdom, from Land's End to John O'Groats, a distance of 1083 miles.
It's not going to be easy as it sounds, so I shall try and generate sponsorship on behalf of The Russ Devereux Headlight Project.
The Russ Devereux Headlight Project has been founded in memory of Russ Devereux. The aim of the Headlight Project is to work with children delivering emotional resilience programmes in schools, as early intervention enables children to cope in later life with stressful situations or crisis.
It also provides support and help for adults and works in collaboration with other organisations to deliver emotional resilience workshops, and one to one counselling. The Headlight Project has a particular focus in supporting individuals and families who have been affected by suicide.
I have a particular affection for this charity as I advised the trustees on its creation and registered the charity with the Charity Commission.
These are difficult times but please give generously if you are able to do so. I shall post updates as I travel the length of the country and also include some of my photography, which some of you know can be quite appealing from time to time!
Many thanks in anticipation of your generosity.
