Story
I'm running the London Marathon to give something back to the Royal Marsden Hospital for the amazing kindness they have shown my Dad during his chemotherapy treatment.
Dad was diagnosed with cancer in January 2019. We didn't know at the time how serious this was until in April we found out that due to the size and position of the tumour it wouldn't be possible to operate. We also found out this was unfortunatly quite a rare type of cancer so they were not sure how it would react to chemotherapy. Fast forward to May when Dad started a very long and strong course of chemotherapy which really took its toll on him in a lot of different ways. The support and kindness that the staff showed Dad during his treatment was above and beyond.
I always remember Dad speaking of his opportunity to run the London marathon. Unfortunately he suffered an injury which meant he was unable to take part for which he has always been disappointed. This year I have decided to do it for him and raise as much money as possible for the Royal Marsden Hospital at the same time. Your donations will help fund the research into rare cancers like my Dads and will give hope for people fighting cancer in the future.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. We ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, we will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
