Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Wednesday 31st March: Day 31 and the final day of my challenge. Today’s 20,000 plus steps, in the company of my dear friend Fran Dunne, saw us walking the coast path from Saundersfoot to Tenby after I had enjoyed an early morning 4000 steps stroll around Tenby town.

My fund currently stands, with cheques due to clear, at a hugely impressive £3330.00 so thank you so much to every single one of you that has donated to this fundraiser for Cancer Research UK. Thank you all so very much

Bless You All, Nicky ❤️

Monday 29th March: Day 29 of my 10,000 steps a day challenge, for every day in March, in aid of Cancer Research UK. Today’s 10,114 steps were completed across three locations including Pembroke Dock, Manorbier and Tenby. As I walked around Castle Hill today I was far from alone as “Walrus Watchers” were out in force! With two days of March remaining and, therefore, technically two days of my challenge, although I have a special “Final Walk” planned with my Sons for Good Friday, the fund currently stands at a hugely impressive £3255.00 just £45 shy of my £3300.00 target. So thank you thank you thank you to everyone that has donated thus far, in my eyes you are all heroes.

Bless You All. Nicky ❤️

Sunday 28th March: Day 28 of my 10,000 steps a day challenge, for every day in March, in aid of Cancer Research UK. As I write the fund currently stands at a wonderfully impressive total of £3230.00 against my target of £3300.00 so thank you so much to every single one of you that have kindly and generously donated thus far. As someone diagnosed with kidney cancer at the very start of 2021 I know my speedy and dedicated, professional treatment was made possible by the breakthroughs in cancer detection and treatment through the years by the amazing work of Cancer Research UK and in this last 12 months of the pandemic charities, like this one, have struggled so your generosity towards my fund is truly and sincerely appreciated by Cancer Research UK and anyone affected by Cancer including, of course, yours truly! Only three days to go of the challenge and fine weather a comin’ so let’s have a big push on Steps and donations. In the meantime thank you so very much.

Bless You All. Nicky ❤️

Saturday 13th March:Day 13 of my 10,000 steps a day, for every day in March, challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK. Friday 12th March: Day 12: After yesterday’s mammoth 14450 steps I think I knew, or at least I hoped, that today would be scaled back a little to enable the last of my blisters to continue their healing. So today I walked a mere 10046 steps and my ailing feet are all the better for it!! My Just Giving fundraiser here in aid of Cancer Research UK stands at £2700.00 after more generous donations from Brian Isaac, Vicky Cray and my cousin Phillip Hartland and my Aunty Rose Bowen. Thank You to every single one of you that has donated thus far, both Cancer Research UK and I will forever be in your debt. Thank You so much. Bless You All, Nicky ❤️

Thursday 11th March: Day 11: Today has been a good day! My previously blistered feet, now almost fully recovered, managed 14450 steps today, back in trainers after a few days walking each day’s minimum of 10,000 steps barefoot along our beautiful beaches here in glorious Tenby! I was joined today on my trek by Lance Russell & Griff the Dog and we managed to avoid the showers but not so much the strong winds!

My Just Giving fundraiser here, in aid of Cancer Research UK, currently stands at the wonderful total of £2570.00 so now I am daring to dream that we could reach perhaps £3000.00, for this wonderfully dedicated and innovative charity, by the end of my challenge on 31st March.

Please share this page and/or the link to this page and let’s see if we can push that total even higher.

I am a cancer patient already benefitting from the countless breakthroughs in cancer detection and treatment made possible by Cancer Research UK so I urge you to spare whatever you can in support of this amazing charity.

Bless You All ❤️

Wednesday 10th March: Day 10: Today was Tough!! I did just over half of my walk early this morning walking into the wind and rain as I headed, head down, towards Giltar Point. The wind was really quite breathtaking and in no time, despite wearing what I thought was a waterproof jacket, I was soaked through!

So the second half of today’s 10,000 steps challenge was completed in several shorter bursts avoiding, as best I could, the worst of the storm.

My Just Giving Fundraiser in aid of Cancer Research Uk Currently stands at £2550.00 so thank you so much to everyone that has donated thus far . . . Please share this post and this page as far and as wide as you can and let’s try and make as much money as we can for this dedicated and innovative charity.

Bless You All ❤️

Tuesday 9th March: Day 9: The clouds were gathering as I set off today on my walk, barefoot again due to ongoing blister issues, across the South Beach to Giltar Point and then back to Castle Hill and around to the North Beach. Walking in the sea at the waters edge is so soothing albeit bloody freezing!! My Fundraiser here at Just Giving, in aid of Cancer Research UK, currently stands at £2520.00. Thank You so much, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone that has donated thus far. Please spread the word and share this Just Giving page so that we can press on and dare to dream of raising £3000.00 by the end of my challenge on 31st March 2021. Bless You All. Nicky ❤️

Monday 8th March: Day 8; Today was a good day, despite walking barefoot for every one of my 13091 steps, due to ongoing blister issues, the walk along the shoreline, in the sea at the water’s edge, across to Giltar and back,  just shy of twice, has been fabulous.

The fund currently stands at a magnificent £2480.00  Wow just Wow! Thank You so much.

Bless You All ❤️

Sunday 7th March: Day 7. Walked my 10,250 steps today barefoot due to blisters. On the plus side this enabled me to walk in the sea along the waters edge! My fundraiser currently stands at an incredible £2385.00 so big thanks to every single one of you that has donated thus far, you are indeed wonderful people. ❤️

At the end of my challenge on 31st March I will be posting a Roll of Honour naming every single one of you that will have donated to this Fundraiser because I want each and every one of you to know personally how grateful both myself and Cancer Research UK are for your kindness and generosity.

Thursday 4th March:Day 4 - “The Fall of the Blisters”

Travelled to Singleton Hospital this morning to discuss clinical trials, then returned to my beloved Tenby to walk today’s 10,000 steps and my walk, which came in at 10432 involved walking from Tenby Harbour down to the Castle Beach and right across the South Beach to Giltar Point and back before proceeding from the harbour across to the end of the North Beach and up the Deadhouse steps for a lap of town before returning home to bathe my blistered, but improving, feet!

My fund, in aid of Cancer Research UK, currently stands at £1950.00 just £50 shy of a magical £2000.00 so thank you so much so far.

Bless You All ❤️

Wednesday 3rd March: Day 3 - Today’s steps are going to look a bit different due to the unwelcome arrival of blisters and one black toenail!! I plan to do today’s 10,000 steps in smaller shifts/distances throughout the day to avoid aggravating my blisters further!

Anyway folks the fund now stands at a really impressive £1666.00 and I am endeavouring to personally thank everyone who donates and leaves their name, through my updates, but also a big thanks and shout out to the many Anonymous Donors, you know who you are, you’re all wonderfully thoughtful and generous people.

Nicky ❤️

Day 2 Successfully completed folks. After yesterday’s over eager 12755 steps start I reined it in today to 10422 steps. Each day I post a photo of my on line pedometer on my Facebook page so please feel free to take a look.

Today has come at a price I’m afraid, I have a blister!! So I am soaking my feet in a bowl of warm water, dettol and salt!! For tomorrow’s walk I might have to walk barefoot in the water, at the water’s age, across both the North and South beaches.

The fundraiser for Cancer Research UK currently stands at over £1400.00 so thank you all so much.

Dare I dream that by the end of the challenge on 31st March we could possibly raise £2000.00 for this wonderfully dedicated and innovative charity that will save the lives of our children’s generation and future generations.

Bless You All ❤️

So, you lovely people, Day One today went so well I ended up walking 12775 steps instead of just 10000!

The weather was so lovely even if the wind off the sea on the South Beach was biting cold!

Thank you so much to every single one of you kind and generous folk who have donated thus far.

I shall sleep well tonight!!

Bless You All

Nicky ❤️

On the eve of the first day of March, as we bid farewell, in sunshine, to a February of recovery, I am thrilled to announce that my Just Giving Fundraiser for Cancer Research UK currently stands at an incredibly generous £1167.00 the day before my challenge begins and only 31 days since my six and a half hour operation to remove my right kidney wherein a pesky 7cm cancerous tumour had set up home!

I cannot thank enough those of you that have already donated, both Cancer Research UK and I shall be eternally grateful, you are all kind and considerate people but I have one more ask of you wonderful folk . . . Please can you spread the word and share this Just Giving page far and wide so we can raise as much as we possibly can to help and support the dedicated and innovative work of this amazing Charity so that our children and grandchildren and future generations will learn to overcome this dreaded disease and/or Live with Cancer rather than Die from Cancer.

Bless You All ❤️

So here we are, on Sunday 21st Feb 2021, just eight days away from the beginning of my challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research UK by walking 10,000 steps a day, every day for each of the thirty one days in March. When the challenge commences on Monday 1st March it will be just 32 days since I underwent a six and a half hour operation in Prince Phillip Hospital Llanelli to remove my right kidney wherein a 7cm tumour had decided to set up home!

Thanks to the kindness and dedication of my surgeon and his team and the rest of the Nurses and Staff at the Prince Phillip Hospital and the amazing advances in the fight against cancer, not least because of the innovative work of Cancer Research UK I will be raring to go on Monday 1st March!

I am recovering well and apart from soreness and tenderness around the operation site, as James Brown would say, “I feel good”

As I type my Just Giving page has already raised £972 for Cancer Research UK thanks to all of you kind and generous folk. Thank you so much indeed.

Let’s now press on and smash through the £1000 barrier.

Big Love to you all ❤️

It is Saturday 13th February 2021 and I want to thank every single one of you wonderful folk who have already Pledged/Donated £510 towards my challenge, that commences Monday 1st March 2021, to raise as much as I possibly can for the amazing Charity that is Cancer Research UK,

Because of the innovative and dedicated work of Cancer Research UK more and more people are “Living with Cancer” rather than “Dying from Cancer” and for future generations to enjoy the health benefits of even more groundbreaking breakthroughs charities like Cancer Research UK need all the support they can get especially during the current pandemic.

I also want to offer, from the bottom of my heart, my sincere thanks to all the Nurses, Consultants and staff that care for all Cancer patients, You are all Heroes. Bless you all.
