Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
2 years ago someone very close to me got diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. I was completely unaware of this condition and just assumed it was similar to IBS, however I was very wrong. It is life-altering. There is no cure. It is a chronic illness and at times it can be very difficult to carry out normal day to day tasks. It is classed as a hidden disability as there are no overtly distinguishable signs, so many people do not believe that there is anything wrong with you. It can be embarrassing and humiliating as the symptoms can spark up at any time, anywhere. It causes stigma, fear and isolation.
Crohn's Disease and Colitis are the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, affecting more than 300,000 people in the UK. The disease does not discriminate with age. In short, Crohn’s Disease is a condition that causes inflammation of the digestive system or gut. The symptoms are long and range from abdominal pain and diarrhoea to swelling of the gut, fatigue and ulcers.
Reading this it probably doesn't seem to be that difficult or severe, but please believe that it is horrible watching someone you love suffer every day especially when there is no cure. Research is still in it's infancy so hopefully with funding, more information will be gained enabling the way for treatment and potentially a cure.
I really appreciate you taking the time to read this. Please anything you can spare will go a long way in helping the charity support those who are suffering at the moment and will spur me on into completing the half marathon in Glasgow :)
Thank you x
