Story
Hello everyone, Ruby here! This year, me and my mum, Nicola, are running the Great North Run in support of The Brain Tumour Charity.
The reason for us signing up for this challenge is because in July last year our lives changed forever when I was diagnosed with a Pilocytic Astrocytoma, a type of low grade brain tumour. This diagnosis was a complete shock for me and my family. It was an incidental find during a routine MRI. I'm sure you can imagine my devastation when I was told.
The Brain Tumour Charity have been a lifeline of information and support, before discovering them we felt truly lost and alone in this whole situation. Since receiving support from the charity, we want to help them make a difference to others, as nobody should go through this alone.
Although it has had a huge emotional impact on me, I am thankful that, at the moment, I am asymptomatic and my tumour is benign. Some people are not so lucky. A cure can't wait for this awful disease, so together let's raise some money for this wonderful charity!
