Story

Hi ,Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

Please read .This may effect you, your children, grand children,or anyone else you know.

Hi my name is Nigel, I Have two children a boy 6 and a girl 10,but they cant be more different.Ellie my daughter is 10 now ,but for 7 years we knew something wasn't quite right, but just didn't know what.

In the early years Ellie did not walk till 3 years, and when she did her ankles looked bent in,so physio was needed, and they told us that Ellie had Hyper-mobility.

It wasn't until  Ellie had been at school for a few years that we started to get really worried, she was getting behind at school with most of her work and the school were moaning that she was taking to long at things, had difficulty with concentration and couldn't get ready before and after PE.

At this stage we were aware that Ellie struggled with all physical things, sports, riding a bike, walking ,also struggled with loads of other  things, she couldn't do zips ,buttons, shoe laces, and found it painful to write.self care and spacial awareness was an issue. After speaking to friends of ours, they suggested going to a private clinic to check for dyslexia,Ellie was diagnosed with dyslexia, but we was told have you heard of DYSPRAXIA. at that stage we had not heard of dyspraxia.

At the age of 10 Ellie has now been formally diagnosed with Dyspraxia. It has been years of uncertainty, frustration and stress for both Ellie and us as parents. Now we know, and are aware of Dyspraxia we can understand things a whole lot better and deal with them in the right way.

Awareness for Dyspraxia is so important, because both the school and the hospital and physio in her early years did not pick anything up at all. If they had Ellie could of had so much more help in her early years of education, and development.

Dyspraxia is often confused with dyslexia. It is a complex neurological condition which affects people in many different ways as it affects muscle co-ordination and perception.

For this reason i will be running the Yorkshire plusnet full marathon on the 8th of October 2017,To raise money and awareness for the Dyspraxia foundation,an organisation that supports individuals with dyspraxia and that promotes awareness more generally. It has been so frustrating in the length of time it has taken for a diagnosis for Ellie,so hopefully through running i can raise vital funds  for the continuing support and awareness that the Dyspraxia foundation offers.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and any donation would be appreciated.NIgel Girling.
