Resolution Run Hyde Park 2017 · 2 April 2017 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Hello everyone.

Thank you for taking time to visit my page. This April to mark three years following my stroke at the age of 26, my mum and I will be taking part in a 10km Resolution run at Hyde Park to raise money for the Stroke Association.

My mum and I are taking part in this run to raise awareness that strokes can happen at any age and to people who are fit and healthy. I had a stroke in 2014 caused by a patent foramen ovale (PFO), a hole in the heart that can cause blood clots. The hole exists in everyone before birth, but normally closes shortly after being born. However, about 20% of people have a PFO still when they reach adulthood which increases a person's stroke risk by up to 25%.

My mum and I want to raise money to support those who have had their lives devastatingly impacted by a stroke and who are reliant on relatives and friends on a daily basis to try and live their life as it once was.
