Thrombosis UK is dedicated to promoting awareness, research and care of thrombosis. We have extensive resources available for both the public and health professionals via our website at www.thrombosisuk.org

Story

In September 2020 I was hospitalised after a week of unexplained sharp chest pains when breathing. I was lucky to have a doctor who took the time to go through all the possible options until discovering I had a Pulmonary Embolism, a blood clot preventing blood reaching 1/6th of my right lung.

I was fortunate that the damage was not extensive and that after a winter of slowly building back from struggling with short walks I've reached a point where I've been able to complete over 400km and more elevation gain than the height of Mount Everest.

Prior to having one myself, I had no idea of the symptoms to look out for, or that clotting events can occur with no explanation in otherwise fit and healthy people. To this date, no explanation has been found for my clot. It's for this reason that I challenged myself to an epic bike which you can see here https://www.strava.com/activities/5540359524 and that I'd ask you to donate to Thrombosis UK so they can continue funding research into the causes and treatment of clotting disorders and also raise awareness.
