Story

Hey there, thank you for visiting my justgiving page!

In June I will be trekking from BRIGHTON PIER to COVENTRY in 6 days...Each day will be equivalent to a marathon and overall that's 150 miles of walking!! This will be the most challenging thing I've ever done in terms of fitness and carrying on through extreme tiredness. It will also be an empowering experience for me and the rest of the team at Nexus ICA.

What's Nexus ICA about?

For those of you who are unsure, Nexus Institute of Creative Arts offers full-time higher education courses in popular music and worship, with a choice as to which instrument you want to study. As a vocalist, I began my first singing lessons here including theory, styles, ensemble and techniques. My range and ability have been stretched alongside my understanding of how I want to stand as a musician. As I've warmed up and practised over time, it has broadened my creativity and confidence, preparing me as a live performer too. Alongside instrument lessons there are bible lectures, essays, practical assessments and written exams. There is a great community atmosphere (including the student experience) and we are all placed in bands, placements and projects involving all three year groups e.g. Christmas concert.

Nexus has only recently been accredited by the University of West London, giving students the opportunity to receive student finance and gain a CertHE (1 year), DipHE (2 years) and now a developing third year (BA) currently taking place in West London. However, it is still a registered charity and not funded by the government. In order to keep this institution open there is an annual RAG (Raising and Giving) week. In the past the challenges have involved cycling, football, breaking records for the number of hours playing music without stopping, etc. Without God's faithfulness and students who went before me and participated - the course wouldn't still be running - let alone be accredited by UWL. Those people gave me the same opportunity to come to this course as I want to give to future students.

The success of this course also affects whether or not I can do my second year here. I could not express how grateful I am to have been taught and challenged here so far, including the upcoming RAG week (I've certainly not quite comprehended waking up day after day after day for six days and carrying on a trek after sleeping on a floor each night). But as I've been training I've definitely felt some of the experience including massive blisters and aching feet from walking boots. However, I want to give back something valuable to this wonderful place and to see Nexus thrive.

Please support me and help me reach my £1,000 target! Whether you can give £5, £10, £100, £200, £500+ please give whatever you feel you can.

I appreciate it so much, thank you again!

Lots of love
