Story
On the 1st of November 2018, I will be flying to Casablanca, then driving over the High Atlas Mountains down to Ouarzazate.
This is where my 5-day challenging trek into the depth of the Sahara Desert will start.
This is the first time I am completing anything like this; the trek will be diverse yet demanding with walking on average of 6-8 hours every day, there will be no roads, no people, no phones.
As part of my training, I am completing The Big Half Marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday 4th of March 2018 along with the aim of climbing Snowdon (9 miles) in the summer.
I am raising money for the charity I have worked for the past four years. I am very proud to be the Business Development Manager of because we make a massive difference to the lives of young people in some of the most disadvantaged communities across England and Scotland.
Often the young people we work with have not had the best start in life and are low in confidence and motivation. At Street League, we get them playing sport and help them work out what they want to do in life. By the end of their time with Street League, the vast majority of young people are motivated, confident and ready for work.
Last year we helped 1,656 young people go into work, education or training. You can see who we work with and how successful we are here - www.streetleague.co.uk/impact
Every penny raised will contribute to helping a young person aged 16-24 progress into employment, education or training. £20 buys a young person a sports kit, and £100 pays for a venue for a week to deliver an employability programme.
£300 will help us to help young people like Leah:
Leah has faced several difficult barriers in her young life. She left school aged 13 without sitting any of her exams, and in the three years that followed her exit from school, she hadn’t made any meaningful contact with agencies that could have helped her get back on track. Having been unemployed for three years, Leah’s confidence was significantly affected.
After attending our Academy, she commented that she felt physically and emotionally fitter and that Street League had been the type of programme she needed to get her out of the negative routine she was in. Our staff facilitated a trial shift for Leah with a well-known hairdresser/barber in Glasgow and following great feedback from the
employer, we’re delighted that Leah has now been offered her first ever full-time job.
Thank you in advance for all of your contributions!
