Millport 2016 · 4 June 2016

We're Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS). We care for children throughout Scotland with life-shortening conditions and their families. We make sure that no matter how short their time together may be, it is filled with happiness. Even in the pain of grief, we're determined that joy lives on.

Story

Millport

This page is set up for those unable to attend but still
wish to sponsor us and donate to CHAS.

Our annual sponsored cycle to Millport is taking place
on Saturday 4th June this year with buses departing
from Bellshill, Baillieston, Uddingston and Hamilton
around 9am. for the hour long journey to Largs.
The buses are the ferried over to Millport where they
remain for the day and drop the hikers and bikers off
at the 2 cycle shops we use in Millport namely Mapes
and Braemars who both give a small donation to the charity.

The hike and bike then begins with some completing the
island in less than an hour and some just before the
dark sets in. Some of the hikers and bikers prefer to
walk/cycle at their own pace and stop around half way
for a light refreshment before everyone meets up in the
Newton Bar for an afternoon of Karaoke and some light
refreshments. The buses then depart the island around
6.30pm knowing that everyone who has taken part in
the days events have helped to raise much needed funds
for worthy causes.

Sometimes referred to as the ‘Island of a Thousand Bicycles’,
Millport (Cumbrae) is a paradise for cyclists or hell for
some hikers and bikers, but all in aid of charity for
worthwhile causes. Bikes are hired to suit all taste and ages,
tricycles, tandems, mountain bikes, bikes with carriers,
bikes with trailers to carry the kids, and even an eight
seater bike. The 10.25 mile circumference provides
breathtaking scenery from quiet winding roads to the
more hilly inner route providing the more adventurous
with stunning panoramas over the Firth.
