Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I want to raise money for the RNLI as it is a charity very close to me. My family have been involved with Barry Dock Lifeboat for many years, with my Great Grandfather and his brother both being crewmen, my dad as a Second Coxswain, and myself as an Education Volunteer, and also having joined as lifeboat crew earlier this year.
The RNLI is an amazing charity that works 24 hours, every day of the year to prevent loss of life and to help those in need on our coast and at sea. This lifesaving work is incredibly expensive, and money is always needed for equipment for the crews, fuel for the lifeboats, and to build the lifeboats themselves - a new Tamar Class Lifeboat costs £2.6m.
As this year is the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, I wanted to mark it in a special way, and how could I do better than raising money for a charity that I love? I will be taking part in the reenactment of the battle at Hastings on the 14th-16th October, so if I reach my target of £150 I will have my hair cut in the style of the Norman soldiers on the Bayeux Tapestry (you need to see the pictures to appreciate the strangeness of this style properly).
Two other members of The Household Anglo-Norman Living History Society; Mark Nicholls and Tom Chadwick have also decided to join in the fun, and so I have updated the targets to reflect this;
£150 - Norman Haircut
£300 - Mark & Tom will also get the haircut
£500 - We will all have our haircuts wearing medieval costume and have it filmed - This is now happening!
£800 - We will all keep our haircuts for a month after the battle!
Please donate as much as you can, and share with your friends, family work mates, cats, dogs and anyone who accidentally makes eye contact during your mad sharing spree!
