Story
Hi my name is Dean
In my 50th year, deciding to trek to the North Pole is one of the biggest challenges I may face in my life. Having first lost my mother-in-law, Ruby Delves to cancer on 6th October 2015 and subsequently seeing the devastating effect that cancer has had on members of my family, friends and colleagues over the last 12 month, I wanted to do something to raise money for a cause which will almost certainly affect each and everyone of us, directly or indirectly, at some stage in the future.
I am therefore taking on one of the toughest challenges by skiing to the top of the world, to the North Pole. This will involve walking 8-10 hours a day in temperatures that can drop to -45 degrees centigrade, pulling a 50kg sled for 2 weeks. I will be carrying all my own gear, tent, food and supplies.
This is a unique opportunity to raise funds for a for a national charity as well as achieve a significant personal goal. And since all costs for the expedition have been paid for by myself; every penny raised will go directly towards Cancer Research UK and the amazing things they do to fight off the indiscriminate disease known as Cancer. The fundraising target of £100,000 is in itself a massive challenge and this is where I need your help.
The funds raised will be going directly to Cancer Research UK and they will also be directing some funds to The Christie in Manchester - an amazing place where I witnessed first-hand the quality of cancer care provided.
Cancer is something that can find itself in even the most healthy of us and I have seen, and been close to, far too many examples of how indiscriminate Cancer can be.
Please dig down and give generously and let's make a difference!
Thank you so much for your support. I know it will be that extra bit of motivation to get me there.
