Pete Jepson, Sarah Weaver & Danny McLaughlin are planning to conquer the highest free standing mountain in the world. Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania on the continent of Africa stands 19,341 feet above sea level.
We have decided to take on this challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy Year 11 prom. Both Everest Base Camp’s – South and North – are below the summit of Kilimanjaro. Most climbers take upwards of 10-12 days to reach EBC. The rapid ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro makes it a difficult and rather dangerous mountain to climb due to the high risk of altitude sickness. We will be climbing to the summit of Kilimanjaro in 6 days.
Pete is no stranger to difficult challenges completing two 100 mile cycling sportive’s and he has completed the Welsh three peaks which consists of Mount Snowdon, Cadar Idris & Pen Y Fan. Sarah is no stranger to extreme challenges she spent four weeks trekking across Canada visiting Yoho, Jasper, Banff National parks climbing a variety of mountains on route. Danny is also no stranger to extreme events having completed three ultra-distance running events of fifty miles. Plus over fifty marathons and the Marathon De-Sables (MDS) 155 miles across the Sahara desert carry everything you need to survive in a multi-day race.
