RNLI Oban Lifeboat Fundraising

Oban Lifeboat Fundraising · 25 January 2022
2022 is Oban Lifeboat's 50th Year of service
There's been a lifeboat in Oban since 1972. At that time the crew had to change into sea-going clothing etc in a rented Council shed on the fishing pier. As well as crewing the 'Shouts' when the maroon went off, the crew helped raise funds by selling bundles of firewood, supplementing the efforts of the Fundraising Guild which had been collecting money locally since 1931!
All that time Oban Lifeboat has been entirely reliant on the generous support of the public as well as the volunteers who crew the boat. You can help us celebrate the first 50 years in Oban.
Why should you donate to the RNLI?
In the UK and Ireland alone, 140 people die by accident in the water each year. Half of those who drown never intend on entering the water. These are wasted lives; preventable deaths. And this needs to change.
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea.
In 2020, our brave volunteer crew across Scotland launched to the rescue 1,071 times; that's an average of 3 launches each and every day of the year.
Why? Because RNLI lifeboat crews are determined to save every one.
As a charity, the RNLI receives no government funding and needs to raise an average £155,000 per year to run just one lifeboat station each year.
With 46 lifeboat stations in Scotland, the RNLI relies on the support of its local communities to power its lifesaving service.
Your donation to this page will help support the running of lifeboat stations in Scotland and, ultimately, help to save lives.
Get your own special, limited edition, Anniversary mug picturing (see the gallery on this page) four Oban Lifeboats which represent the classes stationed here since 1972, when you donate more than £10 and send an e-mail to fundraising@obanlifeboat.co.uk with the subject 'mug please'. Don't forget to include your address!
