Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Jessica and I am 12 years old. This is the story of my cousin, Grace, who has been battling brain cancer for the last 17 months. I will be having my hair cut to just below my shoulders, a minimum of 10 inches off (final length after the cut) which will be donated to The Little Princess Trust providing real hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss and the money I raise from the sponsors will go to the Ellen Macarthur Trust

THIS IS GRACE'S STORY:

2 weeks after Grace's 12th birthday she started to experience strange sensations on the left side of her body, these over the space of 4 weeks these got stronger until she stated having full seizures, auditory hallucinations and inability to communicate. She was admitted into hospital seriously ill and after 2 months of painful invasive tests and procedures Grace endured a 4hr brain biopsy where she was diagnosed with a very rare and dangerous form of brain cancer 'grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma'

Grace vowed from the beginning that despite the fact she was now in a wheelchair she was going to be a positive face of cancer and show others to not fear it but to fight it. She has, to date endured 33 days of intensive radiotherapy where she lost half her hair as well as initial chemotherapy. She has now completed a further 10 cycles of chemotherapy and has 2 cycles left.

Since being diagnosed Grace has graded twice in judo (orange and green belt) flown a plane, learnt to horse ride, joined air cadets, been awarded the child of courage award to name but a few things.

Recently Grace was given the amazing opportunity to join a group of children to go sailing round the Isle of Wight with the Ellen MaCarthur Cancer Trust. This charity literally gives children fighting cancer the chance to just be kids and forget their illness. Many children like Grace, until going away with this charity, have never come across another child with cancer. Cancer is a VERY isolating and lonely world for children and their parents. The EMCTRUST changes this. They give amazing opportunities, build confidence, build friendships and give children their childhood back.

During this trip Grace learnt to sail where she was awarded her initial sailing certificate and thoroughly loved every minute of the trip.

We would love you to, on Graces behalf, help to support this charity who have given so much to Grace and other children like her. Thankyou for your support 💛🎗️💛

About the charity

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer. For many young people simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible. So, when treatment ends the Trust’s work begins.
