Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.

Plymouth Argyle players are backing the ‘Grow a Tache for Chestnut’ appeal as part of the Football League’s support for prostate cancer awareness this season.

Pilgrims’ players have pledged to grow a moustache this month for the popular ‘Movember’ fund-raising campaign.

Their charity partner, the Chestnut Appeal, is doing its own fun version under the ‘Grow a Tache for Chestnut’ banner.

The Green Army is being urged to back the lads’ efforts by donating to the campaign via the club’s official fundraising web page here.

All funds raised by fans will go to the Chestnut Appeal so that money can be spent across Devon and Cornwall, where the charity works tirelessly to fund nurses and equipment – as well as raise awareness of the disease.

Lesley-Ann Simpson, manager of the Chestnut Appeal, thanked the club for joining the ‘Grow a Tache’ campaign.

“It is fantastic that Argyle are playing such a leading role in our ‘Grow a Tache’ appeal by setting up its own justgiving page to enable fans to donate direct to our cause,” said Lesley-Ann.

“Having the involvement of the club and some of the players will make such a difference in raising the profile of the appeal - and the work of Chestnut in general.”

The club has pledged support to the local charity this season as the Football League has formed a partnership with leading national charity for the disease, Prostate Cancer UK.

Argyle is determined to play its part in helping the Chestnut Appeal spread the word across Devon and Cornwall and beyond about a disease which kills more than 10,000 men in the UK every year.

With 36,000 new prostate cancer cases in the UK every year, the charity works tirelessly to keep the appeal in the public spotlight - and teaming up with Argyle represents a tremendous opportunity to reach even more people.

Launched in 2000, the Chestnut Appeal is based at Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.

Raising awareness of prostate cancer is at the heart of the Chestnut Appeal, but it also helps fund the very latest treatments and technology, which makes such a difference to the lives of sufferers.

It also funds Prostate Cancer Nurse Specialists in hospitals, known as Chestnut Nurses in Devon and Cornwall and has recently agreed to fund a new nurse at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.
