Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've realised time's running out to fill you in on our next adventure for Action Duchenne, and for us to get some serious training in! This time its back on our bikes with a "girlie" team of 3, comprising of our ever willing and enthusiastic friends , Amy Fulford and Lucy Swabey and me. We've been cycling together for several years but often it's been more about the tea and cakes than racking up the miles! However, in our constant quest to fund raise and increase awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy we decided it was time to make our biking matter. We all have connections with Edinburgh so signed up for the Night Ride in the hope that revisiting our old haunts would keep us going.
As ever our driving inspiration is the irrepressible Giorgio. He continues to amaze everyone around him with his strength of character and sheer grit. Whether it's skiing, biking, swimming ,dancing or whatever goal he's set himself he refuses to give up how ever difficult his body makes things for him.
Since our last big fund raiser there have been promising results in the research into finding significant treatments and ultimately a cure for DMD. But as ever time is against us and further progress is very much dependant on cash injections from charities such as Action Duchenne.
Your continuing love and support is very much appreciated by us all. Without your help everything would be so much harder.
When Giorgio was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2008 our world was turned upside down. With this new terrible diagnosis combined with his complex heart condition, we felt the future was pretty bleak. However since then, largely due to the tenacity and enthusiasm of Giorgio himself we have managed to get ourselves back on track and feel it is very important to be proactive in fundraising and increasing awareness of this condition.
With only 100 boys being born with DMD in UK every year it is not deemed important enough to merit significant government funding so public fundraising is vital. Presently there are some very promising trials being undertaken, with large donations from Action Duchenne. It is important that the momentum is maintained and that a cure can be found very soon. With your help, our boys who live with this, debilitating muscle waisting condition, can have a future.
