Story

In aid of Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, 15 members of the Parcelhub and Mail Workshop teams will be hiking the three highest peaks in the Lake District; Skiddaw, Helvellyn, and Scafell Pike, all exceeding 3000 feet in height.

The Challenge - Following our (very nearly…) successful bid at the notorious National 3 Peaks Challenge in 2010, raising almost £4000 for local charity the Rainbows Hospice, the Mail Workshop and Parcelhub teams are coming together again on July 9th for a new mountain challenge!

We’ll be attempting to climb the three highest distinct mountains in England in a weekend: Helvellyn (950m) and Skiddaw (931m) on Saturday, and then the big one! – Scafell Pike (978m) at the crack of dawn on Sunday… That’s more than 20 miles of walking and around 10,000 feet of ascent, or more than a third of Everest in no more than 24 hours! Rain or shine, it’ll be a daunting, exhausting challenge…

The Team - Led by Director Steve Riley and Sales Manager Mark Hurdis, 15 of us from all departments are joining together to take on the giants of the Lake District… The roll of honour!: Administration team – Zee Khan, Laura Cree, Trameen Aslam and Asima Mahmood; Operations crew James Rhodes, Matt Pearson, Becky Sainsbury and Alex Grayston; Customer Service stalwarts – Sophie Harness and Kevin Norman; Marketing man Simon Wright; IT boffin Ash Jackson; and, last but not least, our brave driver Mark Smith.

The Cause - Mail Workshop and Parcelhub are committed to helping local charities and this year’s good cause is the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. Reliant on charitable donations, the LNAA fly their ‘Ambucopters’ to reach the scene of emergencies in the area outside the scope of normal ambulances and transport patients to hospitals faster, often within half an hour of being called out; that time saved saves lives. Each mission costs over £2000, and running over 1000 every year, their need for funds is great.

Since Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance began almost 22 years ago, they have been called upon for more than 17,200 missions, bringing specialist medical attention to the people of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire in their greatest hour of need. Travelling at speeds of up to 160mph, their skilled team of doctors and paramedics effectively bring the equivalent of an A&E department to the scene of an incident and can transport a patient to a specialist unit or major hospital in a fraction of the time taken by road ambulance.
